Puppy behavior training begins with you, the owner. You play an important role in socializing your new puppy by positive praise, petting, training and playing with your puppy. Puppies begin their behavioral patterns from their mother. From the time they are born until they are eight to twelve weeks old they spend all their time with their mother and siblings. During this period of time they pickup attributes and behaviors they see their mother demonstrating. If the mother is a well behaved trained dog then the puppies will have a good example in which to begin their lives.

Once the puppies are weaned from their mothers and you adopted them, then the responsibility for training them becomes yours. Puppy behavior training can be advanced by enrolling you and your puppy in obedience training classes. Obedience training can begin as soon as you bring your puppy home. Many experts claim the sooner you begin and the younger the puppy the quicker they will learn. Some start puppies are young as eight weeks old while others recommend starting at twelve weeks. Most reputable breeders do not allow new owners to adopt their puppies until they are at least twelve weeks old, which is an ideal time to enroll in obedience training.

Puppy behavior training includes not only housebreaking them but also socializing them. Social skills are important with all dogs so they interact with other dogs and people in a friendly and pleasant manner. Behavioral and obedience training gives the owner information and techniques to control their new puppy through voice and hand commands. It also teaches the dogs how to behave around other dogs and other people. This will deter them from barking, biting or other undesirable behaviors.

Dogs are pack animals and as such have rankings within their packs. When you adopt a new puppy you and your family members become their pack. It is important to establish your ranking as the leader of the pack from the first day you bring your new puppy home. Puppy behavior training will help you learn how to establish yourself as the leader so your new puppy will fall in line with his new role. During the first twelve weeks of his life while with his mother and siblings there was a peaking order created to determine which sibling, or mother, was the leader. This all changes once the puppies are adopted, unless the new owner fails to make that distinction from the beginning.

Dogs are capable of learning at any stage of their lives, but the most important time to train them is within the first few months of their life. Puppy behavior training begins with the mother and litter mates and extends throughout the life of your dog. Early training when the dog is still considered a puppy is when they best learn and can best retain the training. Most dogs are considered puppies until they reach the age of two. At that time they become adolescents and if they have not received a proper foundation in behavior they can become uncontrollable or exhibit bad behaviors. This is what you want to avoid by beginning your new puppy’s training as soon as you adopt him.

If you are a new dog owner and do not know the first thing about how to housebreak a dog, then your best option is to find a dog training school which teaches both the dog and the owner. If that is not possible then search on the internet to find thousands of websites which offer tips on training dogs and housebreaking new puppies. Some websites even offer various books or other materials which can help you learn step by step on what is necessary to properly train your dog.

One of the first things you should learn when trying to find out how to housebreak a dog is to train your new puppy how to urinate and defecate outside. You also need to understand that puppies will have mistakes and accidents. They will urinate on your new carpet and defecate on the floor. The most important thing to remember is when your puppy does have an accident you must stay calm. The best time to correct your puppy is when they are caught in the act of urinating or defecating. At that point you should calmly take your puppy outside to a designated potty spot so they understand they were suppose to go potty outside rather than in your house.

When you go back in the house with your new puppy make sure to clean up behind them without making a big deal about it. Instead continue to watch your puppy and the next time you see them about to urinate or defecate, immediately take them outside to their potty spot. When they do their business appropriately then reward them with a favorite treat. This will reinforce positive behavior and rewards for positive behaviors. This is how to housebreak a dog.

If your new puppy urinates or defecates in the house do not correct your puppy after the fact. Instead clean up the spot without making a production out of it. Instead take your puppy outside to his spot. Continue to take him outside until he actually urinates or defecates. If you want to understand how to housebreak a dog then you will need to learn patients and be consistent with your message. You will also need to be consistent about the frequency you take your new puppy to the outdoor potty area. The more frequent you take your dog outside the faster they will learn that going outside to a designated potty spot means just that, that its potty time.

Other ways to help you learn how to housebreak a dog is to find a book on training dogs. If the many websites available on the internet are not enough there are hundreds of books written around training dogs. Some techniques work better than others but it of course depends on you, the owner, and the dog. It is just as much a learning curve for dog owners as it is for the dogs themselves. So be prepared to learn and put into practice those training techniques.

If you are a dog owner, you are no doubt familiar with the long months involved in housebreaking your puppy. For most pet owners, it is an experience with ups and downs as the young dog makes the seemingly endless journey from floor and carpet wetter to responsible member of the household. For those dog owners who have the time to spend with their dog, the process of housetraining can be accomplished in a vastly shortened amount of time. In fact, housebreaking your puppy can sometimes be accomplished in as little as a week.

Housebreaking your puppy in such a condensed amount of time requires a few things from you. First of all, you must have the time on hand to spend almost every waking moment with your puppy. For this reason, condensed housetraining is best conducted by those who work from home, or who are on vacation and will be able to reliably be around their dog all day for a week. Next, you will need to be consistent and patient. Remember that this is a very young animal – and he is going to make mistakes! If you think that your constant presence will remove that possibility then don’t bother trying this method of training as you will just end up disappointed.

It begins with the puppy’s first trip outside in the morning. Carry the puppy outside, or lead him there on a leash, and take him to the spot where you want him to relieve himself. As he takes his place, use a command as he begins to relieve himself. “Go potty” is a common command that many people use. Once he has finished his business, you should excitedly praise him to let him know that you are pleased with his behavior. Petting and hugging are a good way to show your appreciation, as dogs are extremely physical and affectionate animals.

From this point onward, you will be taking him outside once an hour for the rest of the day. What you want to do is present numerous opportunities for your puppy to actually succeed in going to the bathroom outside, so that you have a legitimate reason to praise him. Remember to only praise him when he actually goes to the bathroom! If he merely goes outside and sniffs around, or wants to play, take him back in and wait for the next attempt. Housebreaking your puppy in this manner uses the principle of positive reinforcement to encourage the behavior that you want.

Throughout each day, remain vigilant to signs that your puppy is looking for a place to use the toilet, to prevent accidents. If you can catch him before he soils the house, and get him outside, you will have another opportunity to praise him. Use a crate to confine your puppy during the night. If you can, place the crate in your bedroom so that you will hear any whining that he makes, and be able to get him outside quickly. If that is not possible, try to set an alarm and wake yourself up every two to three hours to take him out. Using this method of housebreaking your puppy, you should see results within a week!

Learning how to house break a dog is fairly simple for most people, once they have grasped the essentials of the process. For some pet owners, however, the process can be a nightmarishly frustrating clash of wills between the human and canine minds. Though there are a large number of dog breeds that are easy to train because of their natural desire to keep their living area clean and please their human companions, there are other dogs that can prove to be extremely difficult to house train. In general, any dog can be housetrained – with these stubborn breeds however, it will take more time and effort – and a firm commitment on your part to see the job through to its conclusion.

Among the breeds of dogs that prove the most difficult to housetrain are Pointers, Sight and Scent Hounds, Terriers, and Setters. Various Toy breeds and late maturing breeds can often be difficult as well. The key to learning how to house break a dog when it is stubborn or has special needs lies in understanding the characteristics of the breed and why it requires a modified approach.

Pointers and Setters, along with Sight and Scent Hounds, can all be difficult breeds to housetrain. In general, they all share a “hunting dog” status that leaves them prone to certain behaviors that are often at odds with the focus needed for a smooth house training regimen. Their one-track minds often cause them to forget all about eliminating their waste, as they catch a scent or sight of something else that distracts them from the task at hand.

Beagles, Dachshunds, Whippets, Wolfhounds, English Setters, and many others are all subject to these distractions. Some, like the Greyhound, are likely to chase after the first thing they see – whether it be a squirrel, cat, or car. For this reason, fenced in backyards are important to help these dogs focus. Where fences are not available, you should always keep these breeds on a leash to prevent running.

Knowing how to housebreak a dog when it is stubborn is an important skill to have, particularly when dealing with breeds like the terrier family. Independent, territorial, and willful to the core, these dogs will test your patience while housetraining, as their clever little minds will test your resolve continually. A good sound fence that is absolutely secure at the bottom is important with terriers, as they will roam from the yard in an attempt to expand their territory. They are also prone to marking, which can make learning how to housebreak this dog difficult at best.

The main problem that most owners have with the Toy Breeds has to do with their size – as you might expect. The two main difficulties in learning how to housebreak a dog of this kind have to do with their size and your reaction to it. Many people who own small dogs treat them as though they are babies, which can in fact inhibit their maturation. These dogs also need to be provided a place where they feel safe if you expect them to relieve themselves on command.

Finally, there are a number of late maturing breeds that often take several years to fully learn to control their bathroom habits. These dogs include Great Danes, Mastiffs, and some Wolfhounds. You have to have patience to learn how to house break a dog when it is stubborn or a slow learner, but they – like every other dog – will eventually learn this most basic of training requirements.

One of the most frustrating situations for pet owners is one in which their adult dog still uses the inside of the house for a toilet. As a general rule, adult dogs that live in the home should be well trained in the appropriate behavior that you expect it to engage in – including the evacuation of its waste. Housebreaking an older puppy is really no more difficult than housebreaking a younger puppy, though there are a number of things that you will want to check prior to beginning the dog’s training all over again.

The first thing that you should do is have your dog seen by a veterinarian. There are a number of medical conditions that may be causing your adult dog’s improper bathroom activities, and your veterinarian is the most qualified person to diagnose any potential problems. Where there is a medical condition causing the activity, you will likely be given medication or treatment options to help your dog regain control over its soiling activity.

In some cases, however, there may be no readily identifiable medical problem that should prevent you from housebreaking your older puppy. In those situations, you may want to give some thought to changes that may have occurred in the dog’s routine – anything that may be causing regressive behavior. Often times, a minor change in your work schedule or overall routine can be traumatic for your pet – especially when the animal is closely bonded to you. A dog who is used to your company, but who suddenly finds that it is seeing you fewer and fewer hours each day, may become agitated or nervous, and can even develop severe anxiety. Any of these emotional responses could lead to improper evacuations.

Of course, knowing the source of your dog’s problem is only the beginning. You still have to face the challenge of housebreaking an older puppy, a process that many pet owners find somehow more exasperating than training young puppies. The fact is that these owners expected that by the time their puppies were a certain age, the need for additional housetraining would have been long behind them.

Nevertheless, the best approach to housebreaking an older puppy is to adopt the same methodology that you used when it was younger. While you can choose from among a variety of housetraining methods, experience with older dogs seems to indicate that crate training is the most effective strategy. In fact, many older puppies that are re-trained using a crate find themselves housebroken within two to three weeks.

While it can be frustrating, and even annoying, to end up housebreaking an older puppy months after you thought that the lesson should have been learned, there is at least one consolation that you should keep in mind. Older dogs can generally “hold it” for far greater periods of time than puppies. That means fewer trips outside with your puppy, and fewer potential accidents within the home. And if you can ignore the fact that the accidents that may happen will tend to be bigger messes than when the puppy was young, that consolation should help to ease any frustration you feel with the idea of housebreaking an older puppy.

The holidays are just around the corner which means that there is a good chance that there will be a shih tzu puppy in your future. Yes I know that a shih tzu is a little bit of a small dog but hey a dog is a dog. This article is not about whether a shih tzu qualifies as a dog or not, the purpose is to discuss housebreaking a shih tzu puppy. People think that with a shih tzu puppy you just point them and watch them go, while that would be funny to watch it is not the case. The truth is that a shih tzu is a little lost puppy looking for guidance from it’s master. Housebreaking a shih tzu puppy is not an easy task, as with any dog it requires patience and understanding. That is what this article is for, it will give you an idea as to some of the tricks that will effectively train your puppy to not poop on your rug.

The first rule of thumb to remember in housebreaking a shih tzu puppy is that small dog equals small kidneys. This means that for a little bit of water that they drink or the small amount of food they eat they will be having a call from nature in a hurry. So after your shih tzu eats be sure to watch for signs that they may have to go. The most obvious one is when they begin to squat, unfortunately this is a sign that it is too late. Most times by this time you will have scooped the dog up and will be running for the door with shih tzu in tow like a bomb you are trying to get rid of. The drawback to this is that you will probably be leaving a trail as you go. This is the first tip to keep in mind with housebreaking a shih tzu puppy.

In housebreaking a shih tzu puppy, you need to just accept the fact that accidents can and will happen. Unless you follow behind the dog constantly you will have times when you and the dog do not communicate that they have to go to the bathroom. Just accept this fact and live with it. The puppy and you are going to have to work out a way for the two of you to know it’s that time. Since the dog can’t come up and tell you it is up to you to determine this on your own. The puppy does not know any better, they are just doing what comes naturally. The best method that you can exercise with the puppy is to not get mad, just clean it up and move forward with the cleaning up of their mess. Unfortunately there are as many theories as to the proper way of housebreaking a shih tzu puppy as there are breeds of dogs.

As mentioned earlier puppies have to go to the bathroom about every two hours. This is actually going to be sooner if you have a smaller puppy, remember small dog small kidneys, keep this tip in mind when housebreaking a shih tzu puppy. If you and your puppy make it to the outdoors without any accidents then reward the dog with their favorite treat, the more you do this the more they will be eager to repeat these actions to get their treat, this will be of great use in housebreaking a shih tzu puppy.

In closing I leave you with this bit of advice, housebreaking a shih tzu puppy is never an easy task, it will take devotion on your part and it will take time for the puppy to have any idea as to what it is that you want from them. When you are housebreaking a shih tzu puppy make sure that you treat the puppy the same way that you would when trying to get a toddler to start using the toilet. Hopefully this article has been helpful to you in housebreaking a shih tzu puppy, and I hope that you and the family dog have many great years together.

People come up to me all the time and ask me for puppy housebreaking tips all the time. The ask me how do they get the dog to go when, and where they want the dog to go. First let’s look at the question how do I get the dog to go when, lets look at that part. You cannot arrange your dogs bathroom breaks around when it would be convenient to you. You have to work on the dogs schedule, This would be the same as me coming up to you and telling you that you need to go to the bathroom now. the best and topmost thing on my list of puppy housebreaking tips is patience.

The second part of the question is how to get the dog to go where I want them to go. Another simple item in the top list of puppy housebreaking tips is to remember dogs are territorial and therefore like to go to mark their territory, you would not like it if I told you where to go to the bathroom instead of allowing you to go in your home. That is what this article is about simple puppy housebreaking tips.

The first of these puppy housebreaking tips is keeping things consistent, Nothing will screw a dog up faster than changing the way things are done all the time. The more thing stay the same, the less things change. People think that when they hear the term puppy housebreaking tips they automatically think that things are going to be hard. This is not the case in fact things are rather easy as long as you stay on a set schedule and don’t deviate from it.

Housebreaking a puppy in an apartment is slightly more complex than if you live in a house. But most of the basic puppy housebreaking tips, remain the same. Some people will say just to hang it out a window and let it do it’s business, to those people I say this NO this is one of the most ridiculous puppy housebreaking tips I have ever heard. The key to housebreaking a puppy in an apartment is really no different than that of a person that lives in a house the only difference is that you will have to find a place that is close to the apartment such as a park. If you Google the term housebreaking puppy tips you will find thousands of pages that offer you every kind of tip from the idiotic to the just plain bad.

The first thing that you need to remember when looking at puppy housebreaking tips in an apartment is that puppies learn at different rates, not every dog learns at the same pace. A dog that has had a fairly good upbringing will be able to learn a lot quicker than one that has had a less than stellar previous life. Also puppies are able to give their master a sign as to what they are planning to do. If your puppy is circling the floor then it is a good sign that they are about to do what comes natural to them. Learning to be on the lookout for these signs is a good way to have a positive start to puppy housebreaking tips that work.

Every year when kids are asked what they want for Christmas, the same answer is repeated they want a puppy. Before you run out and adopt Killer for your family to enjoy this holiday season. You will need to read this article which will tell you all that you need to know when housebreaking a Yorkie puppy. People all the time think that all you have to do in the care of a puppy is to feed and water it. The truth is that you feeding and watering the puppy is the reason that they need to be housebroken. Anybody who said that housebreaking a yorkie puppy was an easy task was wrong. Nevertheless fear not I assure you that after you read this article you will be a lot more comfortable with trying to housebreak your puppy.

The first rule that you need to keep in mind while housebreaking a yorkie puppy Is that in a sense a puppy is somewhat like a baby, a baby goes to the bathroom when it feels the urge, so does a puppy. A baby does what is natural to them, again so does a puppy. Now you would not scream or beat a baby for messing their diaper, why do that to a puppy. The key is just to have patience and treat a puppy like you would a baby, just remember this analogy when housebreaking a yorkie puppy.

My next bit of advice is simple accidents happen when housebreaking a yorkie puppy The sooner you accept this fact of life the better your life will be. You can’t run around behind the puppy 24/7 watching it like it is a bomb that is going to explode. You will just have to accept the fact that well for lack of a better term poop happens. Try to keep an eye on the dog and if you miss one of the signs that they may try to give you then just clean it up and try to catch them the next time. Housebreaking a yorkie puppy I a fairly simple technique that once you get the pattern down you will have no trouble with.

One thing that I do when housebreaking a yorkie puppy or any puppy for that matter is I take the dog outside every two hours regardless of whether it needs to go or not. The reason for this is because on average a puppy will need to do their business about every two to three hours. Housebreaking a yorkie puppy Is a little more involved given the fact that they are smaller dogs thus they tend to go more than an average dog like a Labrador. One last point on the taking the dog outside when you do this make it a point to praise the dog for going to the bathroom, dogs love praise and will try to repeat the action in an effort to get more praise from you.

Housebreaking a yorkie puppy is never an easy task, It requires tons of patience on your part and understanding that the puppy does not know better.. When you are housebreaking a yorkie puppy make sure that you treat the puppy the same way that you would when trying to get a toddler to start using the toilet. Hopefully this article has been helpful to you in housebreaking a yorkie puppy, and I hope that you and the family dog have many great years together.

When we talk about potty train puppy basics we sometimes over look the simple answers to the complex problem. People will try yelling, hitting, shock collars and almost any other method they can find to stop a puppy from going to the bathroom in the house. The truth about this is that you don’t need all these methods, I will in this article review some of the potty train puppy basics every person should know.

Let’s start out talk about potty train puppy basics with this question, who is responsible for the dog going to the bathroom in the house, you or the dog? The answer to this question is you both are, A dog is a naturally wild animal therefore it needs to be trained. This is where you are to blame for the failure, if you do a sub par job on the housebreaking of your puppy then you will have a puppy that has no discipline and will not be housebroken This is the first in the potty train puppy basic.

So what do you do to prevent your puppy from going in the house? This is the first step in the potty train puppy basics. You need to be observant as to how does your puppy act. If you notice the puppy wandering in circles then good chance they are about to answer natures call. Grab the puppy and as quickly as possible try to get the dog out of the house and into the yard. If you are successful in getting the dog to go outside then you need to reward your puppy with one of it’s favorite treats. Next I will look at another potty train puppy basics that tend to have great results.

Crate training is a method that is often used in potty train puppy basics, this method discourages the puppy from going to the bathroom in their crate. Most puppies will not use the bathroom in the same place that they sleep. If you have the dog in a crate that is big enough for them to walk in and turn around in, yet small enough to keep them from doing their business and sleeping in the other end. One thing that you need to be aware of is the fact that accidents are going to happen in your house. The only real thing that you can do about it is just accept the fact that it happens and move on. If you catch the dog in the act then you can punish accordingly yet refrain from hitting or screaming at the dog, a simple bop on the nose will be more than sufficient. This is yet another common sense thing when it comes to potty train puppy basics.

I hope that this article has helped you in uncovering the potty train puppy basics, in the end all you need to remember is that puppies are like little versions of children, the things that work with children will sometimes work with puppies. For example, if you take the child to the restroom and they still go in their pants then slight punishment is in order yet you need to enforce that they are to go in a specific spot. This concludes potty train puppy basics, good luck in your training endeavors.

If you are one of the thousands of people that has adopted a puppy then you are already aware of the problems that develop in trying to house train your puppy. Relax as, now I am going to take you to class with my condensed version of puppy house training course. We all have had the spot on the carpet where Fido was unable to hold it any longer, and while it may be irritating on our part to have to see the spot it is more of a problem for the dog. This course is designed to give you an edge in the way of puppy house training.

The first thing that we will cover in puppy house training is the fact that puppies are by their very nature wild animals, Therefore they are not domesticated so they are not trained to not go inside the house. This is where you have to take charge in the training, you are the one that has to be in tune to the subtle hints that your puppy will give you about it needing to go to the bathroom. If you notice that your puppy is making circles in the floor then you need to scoop them up and head outside. When your puppy is doing this you will need quickly to try to get the dog outside the house into the yard. The other sign that you need to be on the lookout for is the sign of you dog squatting, when the dog is in the middle of squatting it probably is too late, here you will have two options, one is to run like the wind carrying the dog at arms length, or two let it do it’s business chastise it and move on. These are the most two clear signs that your puppy is about to receive a call from nature. Once you learn to detect these two signs then you will be well on your way to puppy house training.

The next Thing that needs to be considered in puppy house training, is the aforementioned accidents that will happen on a regular basis. Now remember this tip and take it to heart unless you actually catch the dog in the act then punishing it after the fact is kind of a mute point. You cannot follow behind the dog on a constant basis, unless you want to make your family wonder about your mental stability or freak your puppy out then you will just have to accept the fact that accidents are a way of life. The sad fact of the matter is this there are as many types of online sites and books on how to properly go about puppy house training.

The one thing that could be said about a puppy is that they are predictable, a new puppy will need to go to the bathroom about every two to three hours. One trick that you can use in puppy house training is Every two hours take the puppy out to go to the bathroom anyway. Once you and the puppy are outside then give them the command to go to the bathroom, this will help to enforce your training as the dog will associate the two together. After the dog has finished its business then make sure to compliment the dog on a good job. Puppies live to please their masters and therefore will do whatever is necessary to make you happy again. This will be of great use in puppy house training.

Puppy house training is never an easy task, it will take devotion on your part and it will take time for the puppy to have any idea as to what it is that you want from them. When you are puppy house training make sure that you treat the puppy the same way that you would when trying to get a toddler to start using the toilet. Hopefully this article has been helpful to you in puppy house training, and I hope that you and the family dog have many great years together.
